Functional & Styled Entryway

Entryways are a great place to have functional pieces and also show off your style at the same time. When I was trying to plan your our entryway area there were a few things that I knew I really wanted: a place for shoes, mail, and our keys. I didn't have an exact plan when I went to IKEA, but I knew that I would be able to find the perfect thing once I looked around.

When I found these IKEA BISSA shoe cabinets, I knew that they were exactly what I needed. This gave a spot for Jake, me, Skylar, and Noah to all keep s few pairs of shoes (even four pair of Jake's size 13 shoes will fit into a compartment). They are at a good height to have a place for all of the other things that I wanted to have in the entry. After having Jake secure the cabinets to the wall, I placed on some books, plants, a mail organizer, and our key bowl (tutorial here), and it was good to go.

I really like having this space set up. It makes it this space super functional and it also looks cute :) xo, Britt

Little Details

Sometimes adding the smallest details to something can make a huge difference. I have been working on my gallery wall in our new dining room. Trying to get it "perfect." After staring at it for a while, I decided that my ampersand was a little too plain for me. Of course, my gut reaction was to paint it gold :) but I decided to do things a little different this time.

I decided that adding some fun polka dots to it would do just the trick. I thought about just using paint but thought it may be nice to add detail in such a way that if I changed my mind, I could easily adjust it without too much work. So I used some white sticker labels and a hole punch to create the effect that I was trying to achieve.

I love the little detail that it adds. It really helps tie the cardboard ampersand and the white frames together. And it feels good to know that if I do change my mind, I can just take the stickers right back off. I can't wait to share the whole gallery wall with you soon! Easy DIY Weaving

Lately I have been very intrigued by weaving. Sounds totally weird right :) But really! I follow a few awesome ladies on instagram that do some really cool wall hangings that are woven and I totally want to give it a try. In fact I ordered a starter kit and am just waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime I decided to play around a different kind of weaving.

I have been trying to come up with a few new pieces for Noah's gallery wall and I was really wanting to add a little texture. So I thought that this would be perfect. I used 4 different colors of yarn with a few varying textures, a yarn needle, a piece of plastic canvas (here) , and a 4x6 photo frame (here).

I cut the plastic canvas to the size of the frame. Then using my yarn needle I randomly made lines and shapes filling the space. After I got it like I wanted I placed it into the frame. I wanted to leave the back off of it so that it was airy and you could see through it to the wall.

I am very happy with how it turned out! I love the randomness of it and the texture. I think it will make a great addition to Noah's wall. I can't wait to show you his updated gallery wall when I get it all done. xo, Britt

One IKEA Cart, Three Ways

We got our IKEA cart quite awhile back. We purchased it without a clue where we were gonna put it or what we would put in it. But since we have had it, we have came up with many great uses. Today we thought we would share those with you, just in case you've always wanted one but weren't sure where to put it. 

IKEA Bathroom Cart

Our current use for the cart is in one of our bathrooms. It's a great place to store all the bathroom essentials. On top we have our tooth brushes, cotton balls, and a decorative plant. The middle section is dedicated to Noah's bath soaps and toys that won't fit in his bathtub baskets. (See baskets here) And the last row is for toilet paper, so it's accessible but not in the way. The IKEA cart is very convenient for a small bathroom like we have. 

IKEA Nursery Cart

Our first use for the cart was in Noah's room. It's an awesome place to put all the baby essentials; lotion, wipes, diapers, etc. Using this cart for your babies nursery makes it so all the necessities are in one place and easily accessible. 

IKEA Temporary Craft Cart

We also sometime's like to put our cart to use temporarily for craft projects. This cart is good to use when we are doing crafts because we can put all our supplies on it and wheel it around wherever we need it. And then when we are done we can just wheel it into the craft closet and put everything back in it's place!

We also recently found out that this is cart can be used as a baby carrier. Well, at least Noah loved it. :)

Tour: Craft Closet

So you got a little sneak peek of our craft closet when we showed you the cacti wall (here), but today we have a full tour for you. We have a log of supplies that we try to keep organized. We built the shelving system to hold most of our containers and baskets of stuff. We also put in the peg board wall to hang some of our supplies. We love how the closet turned out. We hope you do to.
